LAWFUEL – The Law Newswire – Acting on source information provided by the FBI in Los Angeles , law enforcement authorities in Montreal arrested Richard Steve Goldberg, one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives, announced J. Stephen Tidwell, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI in Los Angeles , and Anthony Batts, Chief of the Long Beach Police Department. Goldberg, who is charged in connection with various crimes against children, had been using the name Terry Wayne Kearns at the time of his arrest.

In recent weeks, an individual residing in Canada had identified Goldberg as one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives and verified the outstanding arrest warrant for Goldberg by visiting the FBI’s website at www.fbi.gov, where Goldberg’s photo and the description of his alleged crimes are posted: http://www.fbi.gov/wanted/topten/fugitives/goldberg.htm. The source then contacted the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office and provided the information as to where Goldberg could be located. Agents with the FBI’s Los Angeles Office then contacted the FBI’s Legal Attache stationed at the U.S. Embassy in Ottawa , Canada , with details as to Goldberg’s whereabouts. On Friday, May 11 th, the FBI’s Legal Attache in Ottawa requested assistance from Canadian law enforcement authorities in Montreal . Members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Montreal Police Service (MPS) responded immediately and arrested Goldberg without incident at the address provided by the FBI source. Goldberg, who had been living under a fictitious name, was arrested by the RCMP and MPS for violating Canadian immigration laws.

Goldberg is wanted by local authorities in Long Beach , California , in connection with charges alleging that he engaged in sexual activities with several female children under the age of ten in 2001. Goldberg also faces federal charges alleging that he produced images of these sex acts which were later found on his computer.

Goldberg is currently being held on the immigration violation by Canadian authorities in Montreal , Canada , and is scheduled to be in court on Monday. It is anticipated that he will be extradited to the United States to face charges by the state of California and the United States .

The successful arrest of Goldberg is a result of a joint effort by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Montreal Police Service, Interpol Ottawa, Immigration Canada, the Long Beach Police Department, the FBI’s Legal Attache in Ottawa , Canada , and the FBI’s Los Angeles Field Office.

As of March 31, 2007 , there have been 486 fugitives on the “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” list. Four hundred and fifty-six individuals appearing on the list have been located. The arrest of Goldberg represents the 149 th Top Ten Fugitive located as a direct result of citizen cooperation.
