Defendant Convicted of Racketeering Acts Including Murder, Attempted Murder, Narcotics Trafficking, and Operating Illegal Gambling Businesses
7 December 2011 – Preet Bharara, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that GUANG JU LIN, the long-time leader of a violent Chinese gang based in New York City and Los Angeles, was sentenced today in Manhattan federal court to life in prison for his participation in racketeering and racketeering conspiracy offenses. In July 2011, LIN was found guilty after a three-week jury trial of participating in racketeering acts that included murder, attempted murder, narcotics trafficking, and operating illegal gambling businesses.
In particular, he was convicted for his participation in the November 2001 attempted murder of Jian G. Liu in Manhattan and the August 2006 murder of Xiu Kang Xiao in Los Angeles. LIN was sentenced today by U.S. District Judge Sidney H. Stein.
