Leading Energy Litigator Joins Haynes and Boone

Michelle Scheffler, a commercial litigator with deep experience in the oil and gas arena, has joined Haynes and Boone, LLP as a litigation partner, continuing the firm’s expansion of its energy practice.

“Michelle is an exceptional lawyer and will add greatly to the existing strength of our litigation and energy practices,” Managing Partner Tim Powers said. “She will provide tremendous value to our clients.”

In addition to oil and gas work, Scheffler handles trial and appellate matters in a wide variety of fields involving contract disputes, property rights and business torts. She regularly represents clients in multimillion-dollar lawsuits in both state and federal courts across the country.

She also represents major integrated oil and gas companies, privately owned independents and equity investors in a wide range of matters, including cases arising under operating agreements, lease termination disputes, royalty litigation and complex title disputes.

Her move to Haynes and Boone will further bolster the firm’s bench strength in oil and gas, along with the recent hires of Partners Bill McDonald, Chad Mills, Craig Stahl and Jeffrey Kuehnle.

“Haynes and Boone offers a perfect platform for my oil and gas practice,” Scheffler said. “The firm has incredible energy lawyers in Houston, Denver, London and other leading markets.”

Scheffler will reunite with Haynes and Boone Partners Stahl, Kuehnle and McDonald, with whom she worked at Andrews Kurth Kenyon LLP. Stahl and Kuehnle joined Haynes and Boone in 2017; McDonald came aboard earlier this year.

Scheffler’s experience includes a secondment to one of the world’s largest oil and gas companies, where she managed a docket of commercial litigation cases. The assignment gave her subject-matter experience and unique insight into in-house counsel and business concerns.

U.S. Legal 500 (Legalease) profiled her as one of the leading Energy Litigation lawyers in the United States in 2016, and she has been named to Benchmark Litigation’s “Hot Under 40” List, Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC (2017) and Texas Super Lawyers Rising Stars, Thomson Reuters (2016).
