Los Angeles, August 29, 2004 LAWFUEL – Best for law, law news, legal news, legal research Latham & Watkins LLP1 is pleased to announce that Amos E. Hartston, from the firm’s Los Angeles office, has been appointed the firm’s Pro Bono Counsel. Hartston has served with distinction on the Latham pro bono Committee, and as Pro Bono Counsel he will work with the other members of the pro bono committee to help the lawyers in each office continue to provide high quality pro bono legal services to those who need legal representation and cannot afford it.

“Amos has devoted great skill, legal ability and energy to a variety of pro bono matters during his career at Latham and I am pleased that he is taking on this role,” said Jim Kearney, Chair of Latham’s Pro Bono Committee.

About Amos Hartston
Hartston has been involved in leading the firm’s representation of California families affected by the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and assisting low-income residents in Los Angeles County to ameliorate deplorable housing conditions and defend eviction proceedings. For his work, Hartston was awarded the 2002 Advocate of the Year Award by the Public Counsel Law Center, the largest public interest law firm in the nation, and received the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Barrister of the Month Award for October 2002. Hartston also was recognized when the firm received the 2003 Elyse Klein Award for Volunteer Law Firm of the Year from Bet Tzedek Legal Services, a Los Angeles based non-profit law center, and in connection with the firm’s receipt of the State Bar of California’s 2003 President’s Pro Bono Service Award.
