Luce Forward Partner John T. Brooks Elected Member of California Academy of Appellate Lawyers

SAN DIEGO (January 26, 2012) – Luce, Forward, Hamilton & Scripps LLP today announced that partner John T. Brooks was recently elected as a new member of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers (CAAL). The appointment was officially made on January 28th.

This prestigious distinction is awarded to attorneys who demonstrate outstanding character, appellate ability, and a continuing commitment to quality appellate practice. Members must have a minimum of ten years of practice and demonstrate significant expertise in the appellate field, subject to peer review. An applicant must have been a member of the bar for at least 10 years, been lead counsel in not fewer than 25 appeals or writ proceedings, orally argued at least 15 appeals or writs, and must pass a rigorous peer review screening process Brooks joins fellow Luce Forward partner Charles Bird in the organization. Bird is a former president of the organization, and also served as the organization’s first vice-president.

Brooks has won significant published appellate decisions in cases involving unfair competition, insurance, class certification, trademark, bankruptcy, antitrust, and other areas of law. The non-appellate portion of Brooks’ practice focuses on class action defense and insurance litigation, particularly commercial insurance coverage and bad faith disputes. He has substantial trial experience, and has argued before the California Supreme Court and numerous times before the Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the California Court of Appeal.
