Psst . . ‘Wanna Work For A Law Firm For Nothing?”

Psst . . 'Wanna Work For A Law Firm For Nothing?"Obtaining free legal advice from friends and family members who happen to be lawyers is one thing – but what about law firms seeking to employ unpaid lawyers to provide paid-for advice?Psst . . 'Wanna Work For A Law Firm For Nothing?"

The situation emerged with Birmingham law firm Smart Solicitors’ posting an advertisement to recruit five paralegals for its office. Posted on the Indeed law site, the ad states the “ideal candidate” will be a law graduate with a minimum of one-year full time working experience in a legal aid contracted firm.

Smart Solicitors, who specialise in personal injury, immigration and employment law, and their ad from their own website shows that they are happy to provide jobs for paralegals who do NOT have a year’s full time working experience by providing “three months voluntary experience, which may be extended to a further 3 months subject to performance” (see below):

And notwithstanding LegalCheek’s publicity, the ad remains on the not-so-Smart Solicitors’ site, providing another issue for those seeking to hire unpaid legal workers.
