Resource Management Law Association President James Gardner-Hopkins ResignsPresident of the Resource Management Law Association, James Gardner-Hopkins, has resigned prior to the end of his term.

A message from the RMLA Executive Leadership team announced the surprise resignation, which was made on February 16. No reason for the resignation was provided.

Mr Gardner-Hopkins is a leading environmental and resource management lawyer who previously lead Russell McVeagh’s Resource Management, Planning and Environmental team, after becoming a partner at the firm in 2009 and prior to resigning from the firm to join the independent bar in 2016.

The message said:

Until such time as a new President is elected, Rachel Devine, Partner – Minter Ellison Rudd Watts and Mary Hill, Partner – Cooney Lees Morgan will carry forward the duties of the RMLA Executive in the capacity of Treasurer and Secretary, supported by Karol Helmink, Executive Officer, RMLA.

Nominations are now being called for within the National Committee for a replacement President. This process will be completed by March 13, 2018 and RMLA members will be updated accordingly.
