Morrison & Foerster LLP is pleased to announce the addition of a new corporate partner, Scott Stanton, to its San Diego office.

Mr. Stanton is a corporate, securities, and mergers-and-acquisitions lawyer who formerly was a partner with Gray Cary Ware & Friedenrich LLP. His practice includes extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, as well as public and private securities offerings, in which he has represented both issuers and underwriters in IPOs, secondary offerings, and private placements.

Mr. Stanton regularly advises public companies on complex disclosure issues, compliance with federal securities laws, and corporate governance matters. He has represented companies in such diverse industries as semiconductors, software, medical device, technology services, and defense.

“The addition of Scott allows us to continue our aggressive growth in the San Diego market,” says Morrison & Foerster Chair Keith Wetmore. “He will provide the San Diego Corporate Group with a significant market share increase in the high-tech and the public company sectors, and a balanced industry mix between high-tech and life sciences.”

Mr. Stanton was named one of the “Top 20 Lawyers under 40 in California for 2003” by the Los Angeles Daily Journal. He received a B.A. from Stanford University in 1988 and a J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law, in 1993.

In addition to private companies such as Los Angeles-based Cogent Systems, Mr. Stanton has represented public companies such as Wireless Facilities (telecom engineering services), Kintera (software for nonprofits), Inamed (medical devices), and Bakbone Software (storage software). He also has represented JP Morgan and Needham as underwriters’ counsel in various high-tech public offerings.

“I’m very pleased to join Morrison & Foerster,” says Mr. Stanton. “Its strong corporate practice and international resources leads to optimal client service. Its collegial tradition and values fit with mine, and I am impressed with Morrison & Foerster’s forward thinking in both the San Diego region, and globally,” he adds.

Craig Schloss, Managing Partner, comments, “Scott brings a wealth of talent that complements our existing strengths in technology and life sciences. Our office has grown to over 50 attorneys since we opened five years ago, including three litigation partners who joined us in May. We are very pleased with the progress of our recruiting efforts and believe that this success reflects the appeal of our San Diego office and the overall strength of the Firm.”
