SAN FRANCISCO – February 2, 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP announced the admission of 10 lawyers to the partnership, effective January 1, 2005. A group of associates are admitted to the partnership each January and are selected based on professional excellence, leadership and commitment to client service. Orrick currently has 284 partners, including the partners announced today.

Orrick just concluded its annual partners’ meeting, held in San Francisco this past weekend.

The firm’s new partners include:

John Ansbro. John is a member of the firm’s litigation practice group and is based in New York. He focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation that has encompassed a wide range of matters, including pharmaceutical average wholesale price litigation, environmental insurance litigation, professional malpractice, international reinsurance and premises liability. He earned a J.D. from Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law and a B.A. from Columbia University.

Alex V. Chachkes. Alex is a member of the firm’s intellectual property practice group and is based in New York. He focuses on the litigation of complex patent, trade secret, trademark and copyright actions. He has worked with a variety of technology companies on their IP matters. He earned a J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law, where he was a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar, and B.S. degrees in both chemical engineering and philosophy from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he graduated Tau Beta Pi (high honors in engineering) and was a recipient of the Japanese government’s Monbusho scholarship.

John P. Cook. John is a member of the firm’s corporate practice group, based in San Francisco. He has extensive experience in corporate finance and the representation of start-up and emerging companies, with a particular emphasis on private and public offerings of equity and debt securities, syndicated loan transactions, mergers and acquisitions and leverage buy-outs. He earned a J.D. from the University of California, Davis School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, and a B.A. in English from the University of California, Davis.

Mark S. Howitson. Mark is a member of the firm’s employment law practice group and is based in Silicon Valley. He has litigated sexual harassment and discrimination claims, contract disputes, trade secret claims, wage and hour claims and various other employment-related claims. He is on American Venture magazine’s Editorial Advisory Board. He earned a J.D., cum laude, from Santa Clara University School of Law and a B.A. from the University of the Pacific.

Veronica Mullally. Veronica is a litigator in the intellectual property practice group and is based in New York. Her practice is focused on patent litigation and counseling in the areas of biotech, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, medical devices and nanotechnology. She is a registered patent attorney with considerable trial experience, and she also has extensive experience in Hatch-Waxman litigation. She earned a J.D., magna cum laude, from Pace University School of Law, New York, where she was a member of the Pace Law Review, and a B.Sc. in Biochemistry from The Queen’s University of Belfast, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Jay K. Musoff. Jay is a member of the firm’s litigation practice group, based in New York. A former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, he focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense, regulatory investigations and internal corporate investigations, as well as securities and complex commercial litigation. He earned a J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he was notes editor for the Virginia Law Review, and a B.A., magna cum laude, from Yale University.
Matthew H. Poppe. Matthew is a member of the firm’s intellectual property practice group, based in Silicon Valley. He has extensive experience litigating and trying complex matters involving patents, trade secrets, trademarks and license agreements. He earned a J.D. with high honors from the University of Chicago Law School, where he was a member of the University of Chicago Law Review, and earned a B.A., with distinction, in international relations and economics from Stanford University.

Leah Sanzari Flood. Leah is a member of the firm’s structured finance practice group and is based in New York. Her practice involves representing issuers, underwriters, servicers, placement agents and investors in connection with both public offerings and private placements. Leah has experience in a wide variety of asset-backed securities, with a particular emphasis on collateralized loan, debt and bond obligations and residential mortgage transactions. She earned a J.D. from St. John’s University School of Law and a B.A. in political science from the University of Albany.

Scott A. Stengel. Scott is a member of the firm’s bankruptcy and debt restructuring practice group and is based in Washington, D.C. He focuses his practice on bankruptcy, banking and commercial law, particularly in the context of structured finance, project finance and public finance transactions. He earned a J.D., magna cum laude, from Notre Dame Law School and a B.A. in economics, summa cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame.

Michael C. Tu. Michael is a member of the firm’s securities litigation practice group, based in Los Angeles. He focuses on securities litigation matters, with an emphasis in the defense of class action litigation, shareholder derivative actions and regulatory investigations brought under the federal and state securities laws. He earned a J.D. from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a B.A., with high honors, from University of California at Berkeley.
