Stephen Matthews joins DLA Piper’s Litigation practice in New Jersey

January 17, 2018 – DLA Piper announced today that Stephen Matthews has joined the firm’s Litigation practice as a partner in the Short Hills, New Jersey, office.

Matthews focuses his practice on product liability and mass torts, with an emphasis on pharmaceutical and medical device litigation. He also represents corporate defendants in commercial disputes and securities-related matters and counsels clients on compliance-related issues.

“Steve’s substantial experience defending pharmaceutical and medical device companies will boost our already strong Litigation practice’s capabilities across the country and particularly in New Jersey, where many of the world’s leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies are headquartered,” said Loren Brown, co-chair of the firm’s global and US Litigation practices. “Our clients will greatly value Steve’s counsel in a range of matters and jurisdictions.”

“In addition to Steve’s strong track record as a litigator, his strong ties to the New Jersey legal community make him a clear fit for the firm,” said Andrew Gilbert, co-managing partner of the Short Hills office. “We look forward to welcoming him to DLA Piper, where he will complement our existing teams both locally and nationally.”

Prior to joining DLA Piper, Matthews was a principal at Porzio, Bromberg & Newman P.C. in New Jersey. He earned his J.D. from the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law and his B.A. from the Catholic University of America.
