Sydney 22 November 2006: LAWFUEL – Legal News, Legal Jobs Network – Blake Dawson Waldron has won the Chambers Global ‘Australian Law Firm of the Year’ Award for 2006.

Chambers Global is the major international law firm directory and the Award is based on independent market research on the firm’s practitioners and the high standard of work undertaken for clients over the past year.

In presenting the Award at a ceremony in London last Friday, the Chambers Global judging panel made the following commendation:

Winner, Australian Deal of the Year 2006. Blake Dawson Waldron has led Australia’s largest ever contested takeover offer, and largest cash deal – advising BHP Billiton on its successful A$9.2 billion cash takeover for WMC Resources. 2006 also saw the firm receive a high number of accolades, including being awarded an Employer of Choice citation by EOWA (Equal Opportunity for Women in the Workplace Agency) for the sixth consecutive year. In addition, 75 lawyers will be recommended as leaders in their field Chambers Global 2007 – that’s 40% of the partnership. It demonstrates the depth and breadth of the firm’s talent and ability to consistently provide clients with high quality services, locally and offshore.

This year Blake Dawson Waldron has also achieved top firm for M&A in both the mergermarket Asia-Pacific and mergermarket Australian League tables by number of announced transactions for the first half of 2006. Top ranking in Australian tables with 11 deals collectively valued at over $15bn.

The firm achieved a no. 2 ranking in the Thomson Financial League Tables for announced deals in Australia and New Zealand with 57 deals worth $23.8bn for the same period.
