WASHINGTON, DC – May 3, 2004– International law firm Crowell & Moring LLP has taken on four experienced lawyers within the past few weeks, bolstering the practices in focused growth areas of antitrust, litigation and corporate law.

In just a three-week stretch, the firm has added product liability litigation partner Clifford Zatz, who comes over from Akin Gump; white-collar partner Peter White, who joins us from Hunton & Williams; and two veterans from Gray Cary, antitrust partner Jeffrey Blumenfeld and corporate senior counsel David Naseman, both of whom have substantial experience in the telecommunications industry.

In the past year, C&M has welcomed nearly 70 additional lawyers to its four offices, growing to more than 300 lawyers across the firm. These most recent new hires bring a wealth of experience to C&M. Specifically:

Jeff Blumenfeld

Jeff focuses his practice on business and legal issues, particularly antitrust issues facing technology companies. Jeff has significant competition and policy advocacy experience representing technology-intensive companies and spent four years as the Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel for Rhythms NetConnections Inc., which was one of three national DSL-based network providers founded after the 1996 Telecommunications Act. A former member of the staff of the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, Jeff served as chief of the trial staff in United States v. AT&T and also served as assistant chief of the Special Regulated Industries Section while with the Antitrust Division. A 1969 of Brown University, Jeff earned his J.D. in 1973 from the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

David Naseman

David advises companies on corporate, transactional, financing and regulatory matters. He also counsels public companies and start-up businesses engaged primarily in telecommunications, media, ecommerce and high-technology. Having spent several years as in-house counsel at a significant communications company, David is particularly skilled at devising solutions to meet clients’ business objectives. He has experience in sophisticated corporate transactions and various types of financings as well as significant experience in the telecommunications industry. David earned his B.A. from Boston University and received his J.D. from Tulane University.

Peter White

Peter focuses his practice on white collar criminal defense, related civil and appellate litigation, forfeiture proceedings, internal corporate investigations and development of corporate compliance programs. A former Assistant U.S. Attorney for both the District of Columbia and the Eastern District of Virginia, Peter has extensive experience representing corporations and corporate officials in connection with federal grand jury investigations, including allegations of environmental crimes, antitrust violations, government contractor fraud, and tax evasion. For the past several years, Peter has been recognized by Virginia Business as among “The Legal Elite” among criminal lawyers. He has also served as a legal analyst for CBS, NBC and CNN and has Peter has served as an adjunct professor of evidence and trial advocacy at the George Washington University School of Forensic Science. After graduating magna cum laude in Liberal Studies from the University of Notre Dame, Peter earned his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he served as Notes Editor for the Virginia Law Review.

Clifford Zatz

Cliff is seasoned trial lawyer who focuses his practice on the defense of toxic tort and product liability cases throughout the United States. Most recently, he has also litigated intellectual property cases involving digital cellular telephone technology, medical devices, software, design patents and counterfeit goods as well as trademark, telecommunications and government contracts cases. For the past five years, Cliff has served as a faculty member for the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and Georgetown University Law Center. Cliff earned his BA summa cum laude in English literature in 1976 from Boston University and received his J.D. in 1979 from the Duke University School of Law.
