“You’re Fired!” Trump Tells Acting A-G

Acting Attorney General Sally Yates allegedly “betrayedyates the Department of Justice” by refusing to enforce the order from President Trump, who then did what he does so well and fired her.

Citing her as “weak”, she took the extraordinarily rare – and many would say either brave or stupid –  step of defying the White House with their so-called Muslim ban.

She said she would not defend in court new travel restrictions targeting seven Muslim-majority nations, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen.

Yates said she did not believe defending the order would be “consistent with this institution’s solemn obligation to always seek justice and stand for what is right.”

Yates is an Obama appointee and, as The Hill reported, the firing also places the appointment of Jeff Sessions as Attorney General up in the air.

The standoff ups the stakes on a confirmation vote for Sessions, who is expected to uphold Trump’s order.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is expected to vote on Sessions’ nomination Tuesday. If he clears committee, the Senate could confirm him and allow him to take over the Justice Department by week’s end.
Democrats in the Senate are under pressure from liberal groups to delay Sessions’ nomination further in response to the order from Trump, which halts the intake of refugees for four months and bars people from seven Muslim-majority nations from entering the U.S. for at least 90 days.
