19 September 2004 LAWFUEL – Best for law news, law firm, legal, attorney, lawyer news and legal research Clifford Chance LLP Litigation and Dispute Resolution partner Simon Davis has been elected as City of London representative to the Law Society Council in a contested election.

“The legal profession is facing a period of significant reform in the wake of the David Clementi review. It is important that firms in the City play their part in working with the Law Society to ensure that the views of the profession as a whole are represented and considered. I intend that my appointment will strengthen the ties between the Law Society and firms in the City.” said Mr Davis.

Recently Mr Davis worked with the Law Society in the preparation of submissions to the Court of Appeal in the Halsey case dealing with ADR and to the House of Lords in the Three Rivers case concerning the issue of legal privilege.

Mr Davis is also a member of the Law Society Civil Litigation Committee and Treasurer of the London Solicitors Litigation Association.

Mr Davis’ appointment continues a strong tradition of Clifford Chance participation in the Law Society’s policy making. Clifford Chance former partners Michael Matthews and George Staple have previously been Council members. Michael Matthews and Sir Max Williams were past Law Society Presidents.

The Council is the governing body of the Law Society and determines the Society’s position on major policy issues. It includes 105 members, 61 from geographical regions, 39 from non-geographical constituencies and five non-lawyers.
