20 February – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Clifford Chance is to offer two legal scholarships a year to Indian advocates and solicitors to sit the Qualified Lawyers’ Transfer Test (QLTT) in Mumbai or Delhi.

The UK Law Society is introducing semi-annual QLTTs in Mumbai and Delhi to allow Indian lawyers to qualify as English solicitors without having to travel to the UK. The Law Society has also arranged with the College of Law to offer tuition in Mumbai and Delhi.

The first QLTT training session will be available in April. The scholarships cover the costs of tuition and the examination (c. £1,360 per student).

Clifford Chance partner Chris Wyman said ” We believe the ability of lawyers to practice across borders is integral to the development of international trade. We are committed to strengthening the links between English law and legal practice in India, and are delighted to offer these scholarships to support the Law Society’s efforts to make it easier for Indian advocates to qualify as English solicitors.’
