4 June – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Michael S. Clemens, Special Agent in Charge, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Miami Division and Shanika Taylor, Ed.D, Program Professor, Nova Southeastern University, Fischler School of Education and Human Services announce the kickoff for the nations first Junior FBI Academy this Monday, June 6, 2005.
High school students will receive instruction from current and retired FBI agents about topics ranging from Cyber Crime to Organized Crime. Students will also take field trips to the FBI Miami Office, Broward Sheriff’s Office, Nova Southeastern University Main Campus and Florida Memorial University. A tactical demonstration from FBI Miami’s SWAT team is also on the agenda and will include scaling a building. The two week course will give the students an opportunity to walk in the shoes of an FBI agent and develop skills that will help them decide their future career plans.
Students from Miami Carol City High School will be participating in the inaugural class. The students selected are enrolled in a college preparatory program that allows them to earn an associates degree in criminal justice while completing the required hours for high school graduation.
“We are looking forward to meeting the students who will have the distinction of being in the FBI Miami Division’s first Junior FBI Academy,” said Mr. Clemens. “It is a great opportunity for us to educate young men and women in the South Florida area about the FBI and to inform them of the career options in law enforcement that are available to them. Our partnership with Nova Southeastern University, Florida Memorial University and the Retired FBI Agents Association will have long lasting benefits to the South Florida community.”
The FBI Junior Academy will take place at NSU’s North Miami Beach Campus located at 1750 NE 167th Street, North Miami Beach, Florida.
