6 March 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Dan Kolkey is the recipient of a 2004 CLAY Award (California Lawyer Attorney of the Year). Kolkey was named along with Peter Siggns from Governor Schwarzenegger’s office and Howard Dickstein from Dickstein & Zerbi for their work in the Indian Gaming Negotiations.

Kolkey was appointed by the governor to renegotiate the tribal gaming compacts after Schwarzenegger was elected. Kolkey initially focused on five tribes, three of which were represented by Sacramento Indian gaming attorney Howard Dickstein. According to the California Lawyer, “Kolkey’s relationships with the governor and Legal Affairs Secretary Peter Siggins were instrumental in moving negotiations to a successful conclusion within six months, as was Dickstein’s acute awareness of what was at stake for the tribes.”
