8 January 2004 – We mourn the loss of our beloved partner and friend Steven J. Rothschild, founding partner of the firm’s Wilmington office, who died on December 23, 2004 at his home in Greenville, Delaware.

Steve was a leader in the legal, business, philanthropic and political communities in Delaware. An accomplished lawyer in a wide range of corporate, securities and litigation matters, he made an equally great impression with his committed and passionate service to his community. Among his numerous charitable endeavors, Steve served as President of the United Way of Delaware and spearheaded the hugely successful initiative to make direct solicitations to Delaware lawyers. He was a former president of the Kutz Home for the Aged and the Delaware Art Museum and served as a trustee of the University of Delaware. Steve also taught as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center and the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and was the campaign finance chair for U.S. Senator Thomas Carper. In his spare time, Steve traveled the globe, ran marathons, baked bread, raced cars, skied the Rockies, and played golf. Above all, he devoted himself passionately to his family.

We extend our deepest condolences to Carol, Steve’s wife of 38 years, his sons Jeffrey and Peter and the entire Rothschild family.
