Lawfuel – Federal Grand Jury in Denver indicts Evans man for failure to register as a sex offender.
Troy A. Eid, United States Attorney for the District of Colorado, and Edward Zahren, United States Marshal for the District of Colorado, announced that a federal grand jury late Wednesday returned an indictment charging LARRY NEIL GRANT, age 46, of Evans, Colorado, with failure to register as a sex offender under the Adams Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006.
According to the indictment, between March 15, 2007, and June 29, 2007, GRANT, of Weld County, failed to register as a sex offender, as required by federal and state law
“The defendant faces incarceration for failure to notify his community that he is a sex offender,” said U.S. Attorney Troy Eid.
“Grant is the sixth federal indictment in the District of Colorado under the Adam Walsh Act” said US Marshal Edward Zahren. “The indictments are proof of the continuing efforts between the U.S. Marshals Service, U.S. Attorney’s Office and our state and local law enforcement agencies in the enforcement of sex offender registration laws.”
If convicted, GRANT faces up to 10 years in federal prison, and up to a $250,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Evans Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Carey.
Congress enacted The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006 on July 27, 2006. The law authorizes the United States Marshals Service to create an active information sharing network to track down sex offenders who cross state lines and who knowingly fail to register and comply with state or federal registration laws.
