Washington, D.C. – Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Scott L. Fredericksen has joined the firm as a partner in the Litigation Department. Fredericksen will focus his practice on white collar defense as a member of the White Collar Defense and Corporate Compliance, and the Securities Litigation, Enforcement and Regulatory practices. “The addition of Scott to the Washington office is part of our continued commitment to build one of the strongest national practices in white collar defense, securities litigation and corporate compliance,” said Ralf Boer, chairman and CEO of Foley & Lardner. “We are committed to further expand these strategic practices, which are among the fastest growing in the firm.” Before joining Foley & Lardner, Fredericksen spent 10 years as a federal prosecutor in Washington, D.C. and Alexandria, Va. He was associate independent counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel in Washington, D.C, serving as trial counsel in the criminal investigation of alleged fraud at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development under former Secretary Samuel R. Pierce Jr. He also served the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, and later for the Eastern District of Virginia. While in these positions, his trial experience included political corruption, fraud, extortion, product tampering and criminal conspiracies. He also handled several fraud and white collar investigations. In addition, Fredericksen served as special counsel to the United States Attorney, where he advised and counseled on cases, investigations, special projects and other sensitive matters. Prior to that, he was managing partner and chair of the labor and employment practice group at the Seattle office of Stoel Rives LLP, where he focused on general civil litigation and white collar criminal defense. While in private practice, Fredericksen handled the defense of criminal fraud investigations, as well as a high profile civil fraud matter involving the alleged theft of a Matisse painting by the Nazis and its subsequent possession by a major museum. “Scott’s expertise will significantly enhance the practices of former federal prosecutors across the firm, particularly the nine former prosecutors and SEC enforcement attorneys in the D.C. office,” said Jon M. Wilson, chair of Foley & Lardner’s Litigation Department. “Adding Scott is one of many key moves that we plan to make this year.” Fredericksen received his law degree from Boston University Law School and his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from the University of North Dakota.
