Shearman & Sterling Obtains Dismissal and Costs in ICC Arbitration for Oil Major – LawFuel Legal Jobs & Legal Newswire

LawFuel Legal Newswire – Shearman & Sterling has successfully defended a top oil major in an ICC arbitration in Singapore brought by one of the company’s South-East Asian distributors in what was viewed by our client as a test case for its relationships with dozens of distributors in the region.

The distributor claimed that our client had breached the parties’ distributorship agreement after negotiating certain key amendments to the parties’ arrangements. Substantial damages were claimed. The Tribunal held our client’s behavior to be lawful, dismissed all of the distributor’s claims, and ordered the distributor to reimburse most of our clients’ legal and arbitration costs.

Lawyers involved: Partner John Savage (Singapore-International Arbitration) and associate Elodie Dulac (Singapore-International Arbitration).
