WASHINGTON, October 4, 2004 LAWFUEL – Best law news, legal, attorney, law firm news–Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe announced today that James Meyers has joined Orrick as a securities litigation partner in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.
Previously, Meyers was Assistant Chief Litigation Counsel in the Division of
Enforcement at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

“Jim will play an important role at Orrick, as we continue to build a nationally
prominent securities litigation practice to complement our strengths in white collar
criminal litigation and crisis communications,” said Ralph H. Baxter, Jr.,
Orrick’s chairman and CEO. “We are well on our way to achieving one of
Orrick’s strategic objectives, and that is to create a destination SEC practice
for our clients.”

Michael D. Torpey, a San Francisco partner who chairs the firm’s securities
litigation group, said, “Jim is a talented trial lawyer who has played a key role
in a number of high-profile, SEC enforcement actions in venues across the country,
including New York City. His proven skills, as well as his insight into the
Commission’s and staff’s current views on emerging issues, will be invaluable to
our clients.”

“After four years of great experiences at the SEC, I am excited to be returning to
private practice,” said Meyers. “The substantive and geographic depth and
breadth of Orrick’s securities practice and its commitment to its SEC practice are
impressive, and I am looking forward to working with the many excellent people
I’ve met here to contribute to the firm’s success.”

Orrick has been aggressively growing its securities litigation, white collar
criminal litigation, and crisis communications practices over the past year. The
securities litigation team experienced its biggest growth spurt during the summer
when a 24-lawyer team—most of them securities litigators—joined Orrick from
Clifford Chance’s West Coast offices. Orrick’s white collar criminal litigation
group recently added two former Assistant U.S. Attorneys, including the former Chief
of the White Collar Crime Section in San Francisco. Lanny Davis, former White House
Special Counsel to President Clinton, who joined the firm’s Washington, D.C.,
office in October of last year, brought immediate recognition to Orrick’s crisis
communications team.
