12 May – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – SJ Berwin has promoted eleven new partners, which brings the number of partners in the combined European business to 141.
Partners from a range of departments and offices have been promoted to reflect SJ Berwin’s commitment to developing and investing in a number of key practice areas. David Harrel, Senior Partner commented “I am delighted to see eleven partners admitted to the partnership this year, the number of promotions is indicative of the level of confidence we have in our performance. It is always great to be able to promote talent from within the firm and I look forward to seeing their careers go from strength to strength”.

IN LONDON
Sarah Bing (Media & Communications)
Sarah advises on all aspects of film finance, film production and rights management. She acts for leading UK and US film financiers, US studios and independent film producers. Sarah has particular experience in structuring international co-productions.
William Boss (Real Estate)
William has wide ranging practical experience in all aspects of real estate transactions. His experience includes investment development and finance deals and the use of structured property owning vehicles, including limited partnerships and property unit trusts.
Nathan Briner (Banking)
Nathan advises both corporate and banking clients on a wide range of domestic and international financing transactions including bilateral and syndicated facilities, property finance and acquisition finance. His experience includes acting for corporates, limited partnerships, private equity houses, banks and media clients in respect of their financing requirements.
Adrian Brown (Financial Services)
Adrian’s experience includes providing regulatory advice relating to the establishment and marketing of investment funds (including private equity funds, property funds and hedge funds), FSA applications for authorisation, regulatory aspects of acquisitions and disposals of financial services businesses, customer terms of business, clearing agreements, marketing investments in the UK and the establishment of on- and offshore open-ended investment companies.
Duncan Field (Planning & Environment)
Duncan is a former barrister. He advises on all types of development projects, dealing with associated planning, compulsory purchase and infrastructure issues. He also advises clients on judicial review proceedings.
Simon Fraser (Banking)
Simon acts for banks, corporates and venture capitalists on a wide range of financing transactions including acquisition finance, property finance and fund formation finance.
Michael Halford (Corporate)
Michael specialises in the area of private equity and investment fund structuring. He acts for managers and investors covering a wide range of funds, incentive schemes and co-investment arrangements. Michael’s work includes private equity funds, real estate funds and infrastructure funds for institutional and private investors. He has also been involved in a number of secondary transactions and management buyouts and restructurings of private equity groups.
Jason Juden (Property Litigation)
Jason specialises in property related disputes, regularly advising property companies, institutional owners and retailers on a wide range of property issues including: uncontested/contested renewals under the 1954 Act; rent reviews;
covenant construction/interpretation/enforcement; dilapidations; forfeiture; self help remedies/possession proceedings; rent/service charge recovery; easements; alienation and tenant related insolvency.
Ylan Steiner (Corporate)
Ylan covers a broad range of corporate and private equity transactions, with a particular emphasis on venture financings, management buyouts, secondary transactions and a full range of related exits. Following an earlier career as a computer programmer, Ylan has extensive experience within the technology industry (particularly computer software and hardware) and also advises a number of growth companies on their corporate and financing requirements.
IN GERMANY
Dr Christoph Brenner (Corporate, Munich Office)
Christoph advises on a wide range of corporate and private equity transactions with a specific focus on M&A and buy-out transactions, as well as venture capital financings. His experience includes acting for both corporate clients as well as private equity houses and venture capital investors in respect of transactions, corporate issues and restructurings.
IN FRANCE
Arnaud David (Corporate, Paris Office)
Arnaud specialises in the area of private equity and investment fund structuring. He advises managers with respect to the creation of a wide range of funds, including French FCPRs, SCRs and off-shore vehicles. He also advises funds on carried interest schemes and co-investment arrangements. He has extensive experience in corporate finance, regulatory, and commercial work.
