8 March 2010 – Bell Gully has been named New Zealand Law Firm of the Year by global publisher International Financial Law Review.

The award was announced at the IFLR Asia Awards in Hong Kong on 4 March, attended by corporate partners James Gibson and Chris Gordon. It is the sixth time in seven years that Bell Gully has received the New Zealand title.

IFLR presents annual awards to the market-leading law firms in major jurisdictions worldwide, recognising the outstanding advisers in international corporate and financial transactions over the past year.

The award presented to Bell Gully recognises the firm’s work across a range of significant 2009 transactions including the sale of Frucor by Danone, Powerco stake sale to Queensland Investment Corporation and recapitalisations for Fisher & Paykel Appliances, Prime Infrastructure and Ironbridge Capital.

Firm chairman Roger Partridge says the firm is proud to receive the award, but recognises that it is more than an award for the firm alone.

“Last year our clients trusted us with many challenging and complex transactions. We are proud that our clients asked us to assist with all these projects. Bringing them to successful conclusion relied on the hard work and input of both our clients and their in-house legal teams, as well as our own partners and staff.

“Being named IFLR New Zealand Law Firm of the Year is a reward for everyone’s efforts and is particularly satisfying given the challenges the global financial crisis has presented for the New Zealand business community.”
