Alonso, who currently serves as the Chief of the Criminal Division in the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York, will join Kaye Scholer LLP as a partner in its New York office, the firm announced today. Mr. Alonso will leave government service at the beginning of October.

Mr. Alonso will join Kaye Scholer’s White Collar Criminal Defense practice. As Chief of the Criminal Division, Mr. Alonso supervised approximately 110 federal prosecutors in the investigation and prosecution of a wide array of crimes, including securities fraud and other types of white-collar crime, public corruption, terrorism, organized crime, narcotics trafficking, computer crimes and violent gangs. He has also personally successfully prosecuted numerous other cases involving public and police corruption, securities fraud, health care fraud, insurance fraud, murder, firearms trafficking and narcotics trafficking.

Mr. Alonso, who served nine years in the United States Attorney’s Office (the last three as Chief of the Eastern District’s Criminal Division) is a three-time winner of the Justice Department’s prestigious Director’s Award for Superior Performance as an Assistant U.S. Attorney, and is a recipient of the Henry L. Curran, former United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, who also served as Special Counsel to the United States Department of Justice (appointed by the Attorney General).
