Holding Redlich National Head of Corporate and Commercial Darren Pereira is optimistic about Australia’s M&A outlook for FY2026-27, with available capital, strategic corporate demand and international investor interest continuing to support deal activity.
Darren says the energy transition and digital transformation will continue to drive activity, while regulatory complexity is becoming an increasingly important consideration in transaction planning.
Commentary from Darren Pereira:
“Australia’s M&A market showed considerable resilience throughout FY2025-26 despite ongoing geopolitical uncertainty, fluctuating capital markets and a cautious financing environment. Quality assets continued to attract strong investor interest and well-prepared businesses remained highly sought after.
“Australia continues to be an attractive destination for investment across the broad range of transactions we have seen come through the Holding Redlich team. This includes global restructures, cross-border acquisitions, private equity exits, capital raisings and strategic growth investments across healthcare, technology, energy, manufacturing and real estate.
“While buyers are likely to remain disciplined, demand for quality assets and businesses with clear growth potential remains strong. Middle-market activity remained steady, driven by strategic acquisitions, succession planning, industry consolidation and portfolio repositioning.
“Looking forward, the Australian M&A market remains well positioned for continued activity, supported by available capital, strategic corporate demand and ongoing interest from domestic and international investors. Strategic acquisitions will continue to play an important roleas businesses and portfolio companies seek growth, scale and new capabilities. Private capital deployment, succession planning and ownership transactions should continue to generate transactions, while investors from North America, Europe and Asia remain interested in Australian businesses operating in growth sectors.
“Energy transition and digital transformation are creating further investment opportunities across renewable energy, technology and AI-enabled businesses.
“Australia’s strong regulatory framework, skilled workforce and exposure to long-term structural growth sectors continue to support its attractiveness as an investment destination. Businesses that prepare early, understand the regulatory landscape and approach transactions with a clear strategy will be best placed to capitalise on opportunities as they emerge.”
