A combined volunteer work effort by The Association of Legal Administrators (ALA) and Habitat For Humanity will culminate the weekend of October 17-19 in Randolph, when the final touches are put on a house being built for a family who otherwise could not afford to buy a house in the conventional manner.

ALA, a professional organization for legal managers in private law firms, and the corporate and government sectors, sponsors an annual “Community Challenge,” a worldwide volunteer community service effort. This year, as part of the 5th Annual Community Challenge, the New Jersey Chapter of the ALA (NJALA) is partnering with Habitat for Humanity in building a house.

Habitat for Humanity offers a unique opportunity for volunteers to become directly involved with helping people in a community who are in need of affordable housing. On Saturday, October 18, volunteer attorneys, legal administrators and vendors to the legal market will don hard hats and goggles and spend the day installing dry wall and insulation. Volunteers not involved in the physical house construction will coordinate lunch for the workers; others are raising money for building materials. Tee shirts commemorating this event are available for a $25 contribution to Habitat for Humanity.

The project has generated tremendous enthusiasm and so many offers to participate in the on-site event that additional building sites are being researched by the project’s chairpersons: Cheryl Pessolano of Einhorn, Harris, Ascher, Barbarito, Frost & Ironson, P.C., in Denville; and Beverly Loughlin of Skoloff & Wolfe, P.C.in Livingston.
