A team from Hammonds has advised Sandwell Council on the innovative £40m c/PLEX arts and technology project in West Bromwich which will be a major part of Sandwell’s emerging Learning and Cultural Quarter.
c/PLEX is the flagship project of the £250 million regeneration of West Bromwich town centre. Due to open in 2005, the landmark building to be constructed in New Street, West Bromwich has been designed by internationally acclaimed Alsop Architects and will contain business incubator space, lifelong learning facilities, a gallery, an education centre, conference facilities and cafes and restaurants. The main contracts for the project have now been signed and work started on site on schedule at the beginning of June.
The project is being financed by a cocktail of funding from the Arts Council, Advantage West Midlands, Government Office for the West Midlands through the European Regional Development Fund, the Greets Green New Deal for Communities Fund and Sandwell Council itself.
The Hammonds team advising on this major project was led by Birmingham head of property Anne O’Meara and included Katrina Angliss (funding), David O’Keeffe (structures), Kevin Parkes and Paul McConnell (development and property), Mark Robinson and Ed Dunphy (construction), Mark Simpson (tax strategies) and Martin Walker (planning).
