Anderson Lloyd is expanding its Christchurch team and presence in the South Island with the appointment of three senior partners from Chapman Tripp – a move that significantly strengthens the firm’s national capability in the infrastructure, energy and rural sectors and in resource management, property and private wealth.
The lateral hire of Jo Appleyard, Ben Williams and Ingrid Taylor – all respected leaders in their fields – increases Anderson Lloyd’s total partner number to 31. With 12 partners now based in Christchurch, this represents a significant expansion of Anderson Lloyd’s South Island footprint.
“This is a unique and exciting moment of growth,” said Anderson Lloyd Chief Executive, Richard Greenaway. “Jo, Ben and Ingrid are outstanding lawyers who bring to Anderson Lloyd exceptional expertise and client service, strong client connections and a clear alignment with our values and vision.”
Market-leading strength
Appleyard and Williams join as Resource Management partners, consolidating Anderson Lloyd’s offering as one of New Zealand’s strongest Resource Management legal teams.
Appleyard is one of the country’s most respected resource management practitioners, known for her work on major infrastructure and energy projects, industrial and residential developments, Iwi matters and marine farming. She brings with her a strong following in the Christchurch and South Island markets, and nationally.
Williams brings to the firm deep expertise in natural resources, advising Iwi and rural and industrial infrastructure. He has extensive experience in irrigation and regional development projects, as well as longstanding ties to rural infrastructure providers, Iwi and rural clients and communities.
Taylor joins as a partner specialising in property and private wealth. A former partner of Taylor Shaw – a Christchurch firm established by her grandfather – she has extensive experience in all aspects of commercial and rural acquisitions, widespread leasing work and a reputation for being a trusted advisor to property and private clients and for delivering excellent, personalised service.
Strategic growth aligned with Anderson Lloyd’s values
This expansion follows a period of sustained growth and investment in talent at Anderson Lloyd, underpinned by a values-led culture focused on collaboration, sustainability and inclusive leadership.
“We’ve grown deliberately and strategically over the past decade, strengthening our reputation for excellence in quality and client service” said Geoff Busch, Chair of Anderson Lloyd. “Our clients tell us they value legal advisors who are commercially astute, connected to their communities and committed to long-term partnerships. Welcoming Jo, Ben and Ingrid to Anderson Lloyd marks an important step forward, and signals our ambition to continue growing with purpose in support of our clients and their businesses.”
Williams said, “I really admire Anderson Lloyd’s values and culture – there’s a genuine sense of collaboration and connection that drew us to the firm. Its focus on building enduring client relationships, particularly in the infrastructure, Iwi, energy and rural sectors, made the move a natural fit. I’m excited to join a high-performing, collaborative team focused on delivering exceptional outcomes for our clients.”
