ATLANTA (OCTOBER 22) LAWFUEL – Law, legl, attorney news— Kilpatrick Stockton announced today that Rupert M. Barkoff, the firm’s Franchising Practice Group Chair, was instrumental in launching the second edition of the preeminent publication on franchise law — Fundamentals of Franchising. Published by the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Forum on Franchising and released in October 2004, Rupert Barkoff is co-editor with Andrew C. Selden, a shareholder in Briggs and Morgan, PA.

The first edition, also co-edited by Mr. Barkoff and Mr. Seldon, was released in 1996.

Fundamentals of Franchising represents the culmination of 17 years of work by 34 contributors – representing hundreds of years of legal experience. It is the ABA Forum on Franchising’s best-selling monograph and is the textbook for numerous law school classes across the country. When Mr. Barkoff and Mr. Selden conceived the Fundamentals project in 1987, there was no publication designed to give a broad overview of the law on franchising. The Fundamentals project began as a half-day seminar in 1987 and has been presented over 26 times to more than 1,300 people. Most of the materials in the book are direct descendents from the Fundamentals’ ongoing seminars and programs.

“It is an honor to work with Andrew and the incredible team of contributors representing the leading minds in franchising,” said Rupert Barkoff, co-editor of Fundamentals of Franchising and Kilpatrick Stockton partner. “The book could not have been written without the hard work and dedication of everyone involved. I am proud to say that the commitment to a high-quality product is clearly evident as you read the book.”

Mr. Barkoff, located in Kilpatrick Stockton’s Atlanta office, has been practicing franchising, corporate, and securities law since 1973. He served three years as Chair of the ABA’s Forum on Franchising. Mr. Barkoff is recognized as one of the country’s leading franchise attorneys by The Best Lawyers in America®. He has published over 100 articles on franchising, and testified twice before Congressional Committees. Mr. Barkoff also served as Technical Editor for Franchising for Dummies.
