Thursday: Justice Department and Facebook Live to Co-Host Social Media Town Hall on Policing involving Attorney General Lynch.
WASHINGTON – LawFuel.com – US Law News Daily – Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch will travel to Los Angeles onWEDNESDAY, JUNE 29, as part of her national Community Policing Tour aimed to highlight law enforcement’s efforts to use social media and technology to increase transparency, curb violent crime, and build stronger bonds with the communities they serve. While in Los Angeles, the Attorney General will hold a live town hall at Facebook at their new Playa Vista Campus where she take questions from an audience of students and officers about policing strategies and innovative solutions to build mutual respect and coordination between law enforcement and members of the community. The town hall will be livestreamed on Facebook’s official page and the Department of Justice’s Facebook page.
“One of my top priorities as Attorney General is strengthening relationships between law enforcement officers and the communities we serve and protect,” said Attorney General Lynch. “During the second phase of my Community Policing Tour, I will be highlighting some of the innovative efforts underway around the country to build trust, foster cooperation and enhance public safety. I look forward to meeting with law enforcement officers, local leaders and residents in the weeks and months ahead to discuss how we can ensure that every American benefits from neighborhoods that are supportive, safe and strong.”

On Wednesday, the Attorney General will be joined by U.S. Attorney Decker, Director Ronald Davis of the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), Los Angeles Major Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck at the opening night of Summer Night Lights, a public and private partnership undertaken by the City of Los Angeles Mayor’s Office of Gang Reduction & Youth Development (“GRYD”) and The GRYD Foundation on Wednesday, June 29. Later that day, the Attorney General will also participate in a roll call with the Hollenbeck Division and receive briefings on a few of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) technologically-driven programs including the Virtual Ride Along program, the body-worn camera program, and Community Focused Data Driven Programs Overview at the LAPD Real Time Analysis and Critical Response Division.
The Attorney General started her week in Baltimore at a youth violence summit, she then traveled on Phoenix as part of her community policing tour, and she will end her week at the Aspen Ideas Festival in Colorado.
Background on the National Community Policing Tour:
The Attorney General’s national Community Policing Tour builds on President Obama’s commitment to engage with law enforcement and other members of the community to implement key recommendations from the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing final report. The first phase of the tour launched on May 19, 2015, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and also included visits to Birmingham, Alabama; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; East Haven, Connecticut; Seattle, Washington; and Richmond, California. During the second phase of the Community Policing Tour, the Attorney General went to jurisdiction that have excelled in each of the six pillars discussed in the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing final report: (1) Building Trust and Legitimacy; (2) Policy and Oversight; (3) Technology and Social Media; (4) Community Policing and Crime Reduction; (5) Officer Training and Education; and (6) Officer Safety and Wellness. The trip to Los Angeles will highlight Pillar 3 – Technology and Social Media.
