(LAWFUEL) – A 27-year-old man, believed to be using his company to facilitate the illegal importation of chemicals used in the production of methylamphetamine (ice) with a street value of $52.8 million, will face Sydney Central Local Court today.
The AFP arrested the man when he arrived in Sydney yesterday on a flight from Thailand.
He is the fifth man charged in relation to the seizure of 662 kilograms of pseudoephedrine in Sydney last week as part of an AFP, Customs and NSW Crime Commission operation.
The AFP will allege in court that the man used his legitimate importing business to illegally import pseudoephedrine that was to be used in the manufacture of methylamphetamine.
He was charged with importing a commercial quantity of a border controlled precursor contrary to Section 307.11 of the Criminal Code Act 1995.
The four men charged last week were remanded in custody to reappear on
25 August.
The maximum penalty for this offence is 25 years imprisonment and/or a $550,000 fine
