Baker & McKenzie announced today that it has elected Stewart Saxe as the new Managing Partner of its Canadian offices, for a two-year term that commences immediately. In this role Stewart will now also serve as a member of Baker & McKenzie’s Policy Committee and will also join the firm’s North American Regional Council.
Stewart founded the Toronto office’s Labour and Employment law practice 24 years ago and co-founded the Global firm’s labour and employment practice in 1985. Throughout his career at Baker & McKenzie, Stewart has served on numerous regional and global firm committees, and was also the Administrative Partner for the Toronto office from 1988-1991.
Commenting on his appointment, Stewart said: “For a long time, I have had a special interest in the structure and business aspects of the Firm, regionally and globally. I am truly honoured to have been chosen by my partners to lead the Canadian offices, and I look forward to facilitating our collective endeavours to embrace the tremendous possibilities that the future offers.”
Stewart joined the Firm’s Toronto office in 1979 and focuses his practice on matters including collective agreement negotiation and arbitration, advice on maintaining non-union status and in responding to union organizing campaigns, representation before Labour Boards and Arbitrators, advice and representation regarding the Employment Standards Act 2000 and the Human Rights Code, and advice on the hiring and firing of executives.
