14 January 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Adams and Reese was among more than 20 New Orleans area law firms that participated in a cold weather clothing drive to benefit the needy and homeless through Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans and its partner agencies. Federal and government offices in New Orleans, Jefferson Parish and various bar associations also took part in this collaborative effort of the Louisiana State Bar Association’s Community Action Committee and the Federal Judges of Louisiana’s Eastern District.

The drive was spearheaded by Jay Zainey, Federal Judge for the Eastern District of Louisiana, and founder of the H.E.L.P. (Homeless Experience Legal Protection) program. Adams and Reese has been actively involved in the H.E.L.P. program since its inception in 2004.

“Our firm has done a wonderful job serving the homeless with pro bono legal services through H.E.L.P,” says Mark Surprenant, senior partner in charge of the New Orleans office, who coordinated the drive with attorney, Mark Spansel. “This project is simply another way for our firm, and the entire legal community, to come together to help those who are less fortunate.”

Adams and Reese attorneys and staff contributed nearly 400 coats, sweaters, hats and gloves, during the three-week drive. Catholic Charities’ goal was to collect 1,000 coats in anticipation of a cold snap predicted for later this month. However, nearly 3,000 coats—almost three times that goal—were collected, and will be distributed to homeless shelters and partner agencies such as the New Orleans Mission, Ozanam Inn, St. Joseph Church, Living Witness, Immaculate Conception Church and Unity for the Homeless. Clothing will also be distributed to those in need at Catholic Charities’ five community centers located in some of the city’s poorest neighborhoods.

Adams and Reese is a multidisciplinary law firm with more than 260 lawyers. The firm has offices in New Orleans, LA; Baton Rouge, LA; Birmingham, AL; Houston, TX; Jackson, MS; Mobile, AL; and Washington, D.C. American Lawyer Magazine recently named Adams and Reese to its distinguished list of the nation’s top 200 firms – The Am Law 200.

British MP George Galloway and his opponent the Daily Telegraph will leave no stone unturned to sort out what could be a spectacular libel case.
