30 January 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Herbert Smith announced today it will become a Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) following a partnership vote this month in favour of conversion.

The 206-partner international firm plans to convert to a worldwide LLP incorporated in England on 01 April 2005, the first day of its new financial year.

Iain Rothnie, executive partner at Herbert Smith, commented:

“We believe this is the right thing to do for a modern, international law firm operating in today’s increasingly litigious business environment. Being an LLP will strengthen the protection of our partners’ personal assets and provide the best structure for us to attract and retain people of the highest calibre.”

British MP George Galloway and his opponent the Daily Telegraph will leave no stone unturned to sort out what could be a spectacular libel case.
