4 February 2005 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Linklaters has appointed Jean-Marc Lefèvre as its new European managing partner.

The new role, which took effect as from 1 February 2005 for an initial period of three years, has been created to help the firm build on its strong reputation as one of Europe’s leading law firms. The role will focus on the Continent aiming at developing new activities and synergies between offices and practices.

Tony Angel, managing partner of Linklaters, said:

“Jean-Marc has a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the region. In his previous role as chairman of the European committee, he has travelled extensively throughout the continent over the last two years. His corporate expertise coupled with his management experience makes him ideally suited to lead the firm in Europe.”

Jean-Marc, who has been Paris Managing Partner since 1995, will continue as co-head of the Paris Office with Thierry Vassogne but will hand over its Paris management responsibilities. He specialises in corporate and project finance and has been acting for American, British, German and Spanish companies in relation to their investments into France. He has also been a regular adviser to major French corporate clients.

Commenting on his appointment, Jean-Marc said:

“My new role represents an exciting challenge for me as I build on the firm’s outstanding achievements in Europe. Linklaters remains the dominant force among Europe’s leading law firms, having topped the M&A league tables for 2004. Going forward, we will continue to build on our success across the region. I am also determined to continue to develop the right environment to attract the best people.”

British MP George Galloway and his opponent the Daily Telegraph will leave no stone unturned to sort out what could be a spectacular libel case.
