5 May – LAWFUEL – Law News Network – 5 May 2005 – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary (“DLA Piper”) has been appointed to the legal panel which advises the University of Manchester.

The University of Manchester was created on 1 October 2004 by the merger of the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology and the Victoria University of Manchester.

This has been the first opportunity for the University of Manchester to review its panel of legal advisers since the merger. A total of 10 firms were short-listed and DLA Piper was among the three selected following submission of tenders and a presentation.

Roy Beckett, managing partner of the Manchester office, led the pitch. The University of Manchester is a new client for DLA Piper and the organisation will advise on HR and real estate issues.

Roy said: “We are delighted to be appointed to the panel. The University of Manchester is a world class education establishment, conducting state of the art research and maintaining the highest standards. With our team in Manchester, backed by our global network, we believe we can help further its aims and objectives.”

British MP George Galloway and his opponent the Daily Telegraph will leave no stone unturned to sort out what could be a spectacular libel case.
