7 March – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – David Childs is to be global managing partner of Clifford Chance, with effect from 1st May 2006. David takes over the role from Peter Cornell for a four-year term.
Currently global chief operating officer, David won the support of partners in a nomination round which led to an uncontested election.
David comments, ” I am delighted and honoured to take on this role. We are one of the leading law firms in the world, and I plan to build on the considerable progress we have made. I look forward to working with Peter Cornell to effect a smooth handover over the next couple of months, and to working with all our partners to continue to develop the firm into a world class brand.”
David, 54, joined Clifford Chance as a trainee, qualified in 1976 and has been a partner since 1981. His corporate legal work specialised in corporate finance, particularly public takeovers, merger and acquisitions, joint ventures and equity issues. David was previously global head of the firm’s corporate practice, and took his current role in late 2003. In 2005 he announced his stepping-down from the head of corporate role so that he could concentrate on his global leadership role in the firm, combined with a lead role in major transactions for his clients.
