Allen & Overy adds law capability in Singapore practice expansion – Asian Law News – Legal Announcements – 5 June 2009
Allen & Overy announces the addition of Singapore law expertise to its international network following the appointment of Lock Yin Mei and Kenny Kwan as partners in its Singapore office.

The announcement coincides with Allen & Overy commencing operations as a Qualifying Foreign Law Practice (QFLP), following a successful application to the Singapore Ministry of Law.

Lock Yin Mei and Kenny Kwan join A&O from leading Singapore firm Venture Law LLC, along with all the other existing fee earners. Yin Mei and Kenny are both highly regarded in the capital markets and corporate arena and their experience will complement Allen & Overy Singapore’s key strengths in capital markets, banking, mergers and acquisitions and private equity.

The expansion is a reflection of Allen & Overy’s long-term commitment and investment in the South East Asia region where the team has been serving clients for more than a decade. Managing partner of Allen & Overy Singapore Kenneth Aboud said: “We are delighted to have Yin Mei and Kenny come on board. Yin Mei and Kenny are both outstanding lawyers and having them lead the development of our Singapore law practice will certainly enhance our position as a QFLP firm and strengthen our capabilities across all practice areas. We are now a true one-stop shop for high-end legal services in Singapore.”

David Morley, senior partner at Allen & Overy said: “Our firm strategy is to be a leading legal adviser in all the key markets where our clients are. The addition of Yin Mei, Kenny and team builds on this strategy and further strengthens our offerings in Singapore and South East Asia generally. The Singapore law capability reinforces our commitment to invest in the region and in the future of our business.”

Allen & Overy Singapore now has nine partners, and a total of 44 fee earners advising on Singapore, English and U.S. law.
