April 4, 2005, New York City, NY – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – Reed Smith, a top 25 international law firm, is celebrating the arrival of spring with the addition of Daniel K. Winters in New York City as the newest partner of the firm’s Insurance Recovery Practice Group, effective immediately.

Mr. Winters joins Reed Smith from Porzio, Bromberg & Newman, PC, where he served as head of its New York office.

“We are delighted to have Dan join the firm,” said Douglas Cameron, Head of Reed Smith’s firmwide Insurance Recovery Group. “Several of our partners have worked with Dan on insurance coverage matters in the past and we know he will be an asset to the New York office and to our insurance recovery practice for policyholders firmwide.”

Mr. Winters is a commercial litigator whose practice focuses on representing policyholders in insurance coverage disputes in federal and state courts throughout New Jersey and New York. In addition to his insurance coverage work, he has represented clients in complex litigation matters within such diverse areas as bankruptcy, contract law, general commercial disputes and product liability, including asbestos defense and the defense of prescription pharmaceutical companies.

Recently the product liability component of his practice has increased as he has worked on the diet drug litigation in New Jersey, working extensively with expert witnesses and participating in New Jersey’s “eligibility hearings,” the procedural vehicle to establish a plaintiff’s eligibility to proceed to trial.

At the same time Mr. Winters joins the Insurance Recovery Group in the firm’s New York office, Reed Smith is also adding two seasoned insurance coverage counsel in the firm’s Philadelphia office. Douglas R. Widin was a previously a partner at Wolf, Block, Schorr and Solis-Cohen LLP in Philadelphia. Jay Levin was previously a partner at Cozen O’Connor, where he was Co-Chair of that firm’s National Insurance Practice Group. The two will form the core of the Insurance Recovery Group’s practice in the Philadelphia office representing policyholders in insurance coverage disputes.

A 1994 graduate of Fordham University School of Law, Mr. Winters earned his undergraduate degree from Dartmouth College in 1991. After a clerkship in New Jersey Superior Court, Bergen County, he entered private practice at Parisi & Gerlanc, moving to Porzio six years ago.

Mr. Winters is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York as well as the US Court of Appeals, Third Circuit, several federal district courts in NY, the US District Court, District of New Jersey, and the US Supreme Court. He is a member of the Internet and Computer Law Committee and the Bankruptcy Law Section of the New Jersey Bar. He is also a member of the Bergen County Bar Association, Business Law, Civil Practice and Internet Law Committees, and the Dartmouth Lawyers Association and a Justice Morris Pashman Inn of Court graduate and current Barrister.

Mr. Winters also is a member of the Dartmouth Alumni Club of Northern New Jersey and the Commerce and Industry Association of NJ, Technology Committee. He is also a New Jersey Certified Mediator.
