BALTIMORE – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – January 5, 2006 Ober|Kaler is pleased to announce that attorneys Elissa F. Borges and Eric D. Gazin have been elected principals of the firm. Both attorneys practice in the firm’s Baltimore office.
Ms. Borges, 39, a litigator, represents clients in disputes involving business, commercial, and employment matters. She has significant experience representing clients in tax controversy matters and advising on state and multi-state tax planning.
A dedicated member of the legal community, Ms. Borges is the immediate past chair of the Taxation Section Council of the Maryland State Bar Association. She has served on the Gender Issues and Judicial Selections Committees of the Bar Association of Baltimore City. Recognized for her service and integrity, Ms. Borges is a Fellow of the Maryland Bar Foundation. She is committed to childhood education issues and serves on the board of the Maryland Committee for Children, Inc. and has served on the board of Catholic Community School of South Baltimore, Inc.
Ms. Borges is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law (J.D., 1992) and the University of Maryland (B.A., 1988).
She is a resident of the Lake Roland area.
Eric Gazin is a member of the firm’s Lending & Leasing Group. He practices commercial finance and business law with a focus on leases of personal property and asset-based lending. His work covers a range of finance and business transactions, including the drafting and negotiation of true leases, leases for security, loan agreements, and synthetic leases.
Mr. Gazin has extensive experience in foreign business transactions. Stationed in Brussels, he worked for Sonoco Europe, S.A. to establish the company’s presence in Poland. In Moscow, he worked in the legal department of The Coca-Cola Company.
A member of the Equipment Leasing Association, Mr. Gazin sits on the board of ELA’s Future Leasing Leaders Committee. He is a member of the Maryland, North and South Carolina bars.
A graduate of Emory University School of Law (J.D., 1997) and Trinity College (B.A., 1991), Mr. Gazin enrolled at the Byelorussian State University in Minsk where he participated in the first formal undergraduate student exchange program with the Soviet Union. Mr. Gazin studied law and history at Warsaw University and speaks Polish and Russian. He was awarded the J. William Fulbright Foreign Study Scholarship in 1993.
He is a resident of Homeland.
