BOSTON, April 11, 2005 – Holland & Knight today announced that Boston-based partner John Monaghan has been elevated to head of the firm’s National Corporate Restructuring, Creditors’ Rights and Insolvency Practice Group.

Monaghan’s extensive bankruptcy practice involves representation of a wide range of clients, including Chapter 11 debtors, creditors’ committees, equity committees, lenders, landlords, licensors, trustees, parties to prepetition contracts and leases, defendants in adversary proceedings and unsecured creditors. Monaghan is particularly focused on representing major case participants in complex commercial Chapter 11 cases. He advises clients on the business aspects of bankruptcy and workouts, and represents clients in matters in the Bankruptcy Court as well as in other state and federal courts.

Recent cases handled by Monaghan include acting as counsel to the five debtors in the Chapter 11 case of the thirty division international tour operator Far & Wide Travel Company, the petitioning creditors in the involuntary bankruptcy petition filed against the law firm of Testa, Hurwitz & Thibeault, LLP, and the official committee of unsecured creditors in the Chapter 11 case of the Emmy Award winning digital video equipment company Media 100, Inc.

Monaghan attended Middlebury College, where he received his bachelor’s degree, cum laude, in 1981. He earned his law degree cum laude in 1985 from Boston University, where he was a staff member and editor of the Boston University Law Review. He is admitted to the Massachusetts bar. He was named a leading attorney by Chambers USA – America’s Leading Lawyers 2004-2005.
