Boston – LAWFUEL – Law News Network – Foley & Lardner LLP announced today that Lawrence W. Vernaglia has joined the firm’s Boston office. He will be a partner in the firm and a member of the Health Care Industry Team. He joins Michael L. Blau, who recently came to Foley to head the firm’s health care venture effort.
“The addition of Larry is the latest step in the firm’s strategic plan to increase the breadth and depth of the health care practice, both nationally and in Boston,” said J. Mark Waxman, chair of Foley’s Health Care Industry Team. “His experience, along with that of our new health care venture leader Michael Blau, will further position the firm as a leader in the health care market.”
Vernaglia, 37, comes to Foley from Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP where he was a partner with an established health law practice serving New England health care institutions. He focuses his practice on representation of hospitals and other providers on public and commercial payor reimbursement, compliance and operational issues; nursing homes on certification and operations issues. He also represents all types of health care providers in transactional work, including strategic planning for business arrangements that take into account reimbursement, regulatory and compliance issues.
He has numerous leadership positions in the local health care bar, including serving as the incoming co-chair of the Boston Bar Association’s Health Law Section (2006-2008) and continues as the co-chair of the Health Care Compliance Association’s Northeast Regional Annual Conference as well as the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education Health Law Update and Health Law Basics programs. He is also an active member of several other health care associations and serves as a speaker on a variety of issues relating to the intersection of law and medicine.
Vernaglia is the co-editor of a two-volume treatise The Massachusetts Health & Hospital Law Manual (MCLE, Inc., 2004) and has published more than 50 articles in professional journals and periodicals such as Health Lawyers Weekly, J. Health Care Compliance, Medical Economics, Health Law Digest and Health Law News. He also serves on the editorial boards of a number of prominent national journals relating to health care and the law.
He earned his juris doctorate and his master’s degree in public health from Boston University and his bachelor’s degree from New College of Florida, the state’s honors college.
