(CHICAGO) February 27, 2006 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network – DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary US LLP announced today that the firm was ranked as the third most frequently hired bankruptcy group in the United States according to an analysis by Bankruptcy Law360.

Bankruptcy Law360, published by Portfolio Media of New York, compiled its list of the top 100 bankruptcy groups measured by new cases taken on in 2005. DLA Piper’s third place ranking was only one case shy of the number two ranked firm on the list.

“Given the firm’s strength in finance, business litigation, corporate, real estate and franchising law, our bankruptcy team has tremendous experience representing a broad spectrum of businesses,” said Mark Berkoff, co-chair of DLA Piper’s Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy practice group.

“We are proud of DLA Piper’s strong standing in the Bankruptcy Law360 rankings as it is an indication of our success in continuing to build on an already very strong national team,” said Richard Kremen, co-chair of DLA Piper’s Financial Restructuring and Bankruptcy practice group.

According to Bankruptcy Law360’s survey, DLA Piper attorneys handled 28 bankruptcy cases last year, representing clients in a wide variety of industries. The firm served as debtor’s counsel for clients including National Steel Corp., Wickes Inc., Parkway Hospital, and Globe Metallurgical and as creditor’s committee counsel for Ha-Lo Industries, and Fleming Companies.

The National Steel Corp. case was one of the firm’s largest to date. As Debtors’ counsel to National Steel Corporation and 41 of its subsidiaries in Chapter 11 cases pending in the Northern District of Illinois, DLA Piper’s bankruptcy, real estate, corporate and litigation attorneys worked to draft and confirm a consensual plan of liquidation that has returned over $500 million to National Steel’s creditors.

In the U.S., DLA Piper’s Financial Restructuring & Bankruptcy practice includes more than 50 attorneys based in Baltimore, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Northern Virginia, San Diego, San Francisco, Silicon Valley, Tampa and Washington, D.C. The team represents a broad range of clients, including developers, lenders, retailers, distributors, manufacturers, investment funds and others in all aspects of workouts, restructurings and liquidations.
