CHICAGO, May 12 – LAWFUEL – Attorneys and staff from Piper Rudnick LLP will present two special “Power of Education” career panels to fifth and sixth grade classes at Chicago’s Barry Elementary School on Friday, May 14, focusing on reading, scholarship, and leadership.
The Power of Education event was organized by the firm to honor the memory of Katherine Nooney, a young partner at the firm who recently passed away. Among Ms. Nooney’s pro bono projects was her work with CBA Alliance for Women – Women Everywhere Project, a cosponsor of the event.
Piper Rudnick attorneys and staff members will tell Barry Elementary students about a variety of different occupations at the firm. Lawyers, accountants, legal secretaries, docket clerks, human resource directors, data entry/billing clerks, information technology assistants and computer support technicians, storage/file management clerks, librarians, and paralegals will come to the school to talk about their work. In addition, attorney volunteers will be assigned to fourth grade classes, where they will read books selected by the principal, discuss their legal careers, and answer questions on a more intimate scale. . More than 25 people from the firm will take part in the event.
The law firm has a corporate partnership with Barry Elementary School through CPS’ Futures Exchange program. As part of the Power of Education events, each child will receive a goody bag, and Piper Rudnick will make a donation to the Barry library to help finance additional books and new reading software.
