CHICAGO – Paul H. Stepan has joined the Chicago office of McGuireWoods LLP as a partner in the firm’s Corporate Services Department. He represents companies in a variety of corporate, energy and financing matters, including mergers and acquisitions.

In addition to practicing law, he is a partner in a venture fund that focuses on the chemical manufacturing and hospitality industries. Active in Chicago politics, he has been finance chairman for Mayor Richard M. Daley’s campaign for state’s attorney in 1980, 1984 and 1988, and served on the Richard M. Daley for Mayor Committee in 1983, 1989 and 1991. He has also been a finance chairman for the Democratic Party of Illinois from 1980-1984, as well as chairman of the Chicago/Osaka Sister City Committee from 1990-1992.

His background includes serving as an executive managing director for a financial services firm where he focused on venture capital, mortgage banking, public finance, insurance and real estate; president of a Texas oil and gas exploration company; and chairman of a real estate development and leveraged buyout firm.

He received his law degree from the University of Chicago in Chicago, Ill.; his master’s degree from Oxford College in Oxford, England; and his bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind.
