CLEVELAND, Feb. 7 – LAWFUEL – The Law News Network — The White House today announced that President George W. Bush intends to appoint Michael R. Oestreicher to serve as a Member of the President’s Advisory Committee for Trade Policy and
Negotiations (ACTPN). Mr. Oestreicher, a corporate partner in the Cincinnati
office of Thompson Hine LLP and member of the firm’s Executive Committee, will
remain with the law firm as he serves his two-year term with ACTPN.

The purpose of ACTPN is to provide the Office of the U.S. Trade
Representative with overall policy advice on matters concerning objectives and
bargaining positions before entering into a trade agreement, the operation of
any trade agreement once entered into, and other matters arising in connection
with trade policy of the United States. The President appoints ACTPN members
for two-year terms. The 1974 Trade Act requires that membership broadly
represent key economic sectors affected by trade. As such, ACTPN consist of
members including representatives of non-federal governments and labor,
industry, agriculture, small business, service industries, retailer and
consumer interests. The committee considers trade policy issues in the context
of the overall national interest.

contribute in a small way to an area of our national interest that is center
stage and one in which I have been involved and personally interested for most
of my professional life.”

Mr. Oestreicher was Partner-in-Charge of Thompson Hine’s Cincinnati office
from 1989-2000. For many years, he was the Executive Committee’s liaison
between the firm’s U.S. and Brussels offices. Currently, he is a member of the
firm’s Corporate Transactions & Securities and International practice groups
and is responsible for several of the firm’s key strategic initiatives. His
practice has focused on domestic and international commercial transactions, in
particular, international joint ventures, strategic alliances, mergers and
acquisitions, intellectual property licensing and exploitation, and
agency/distribution agreements. Mr. Oestreicher has had substantial experience
and involvement in domestic and international troubleshooting and dispute
resolution. He has also represented many non-U.S. companies establishing or
expanding operations in the U.S. Mr. Oestreicher is admitted to practice in
Ohio and New York and is a former Associate Member of the Dutch Order of the
Brussels, Belgium, Bar. He received his J.D. from Boston University School of
Law and his B.A. from Miami University.
