Cooley LLP announced that Ronald Sussman, a partner in the firm’s Bankruptcy & Restructuring practice, has been elected president of the Turnaround Management Association (TMA) effective Jan. 1, 2012. Sussman is currently Corporate Secretary on the TMA Executive Board and a Trustee on the International Board of Trustees.
“We’re thrilled to fill the role of president with a well-respected bankruptcy practitioner from an outstanding firm,” said Linda Delgadillo, Executive Director of TMA. “Ron has been active in various leadership capacities within TMA since the 1990s, including strategic and operational, so he is very well positioned to take the helm of TMA as its next president.”
Based in New York, Sussman has successfully represented debtors, creditors, employee and other official committees in some of the country’s most significant bankruptcy cases, including Enron, United Airlines, Blockbuster, Mervyn’s, Pacific Metro/Kinkade Gallery, Gottschalks, EPV Solar, The Sharper Image, CompUSA, Loehmann’s and The Walking Company, among others. Selected as one of the “Super Lawyers of New York” every year from 2006 through 2011, Sussman has assisted companies and their creditors in some of the most complex bankruptcy proceedings nationwide and abroad.
“I am honored to have been chosen to lead an organization that is considered the premier restructuring and reorganization association in the world,” said Sussman, who will serve as President through 2012, and assume the chairmanship of the TMA in 2013. “I have long valued working with professionals from the many disciplines that comprise the TMA, and I am looking forward to leading the organization.”
TMA is an international non-profit association dedicated to corporate restructuring and turnaround management, with approximately 9,000 members in 48 chapters worldwide. Members include turnaround practitioners, attorneys, lenders, accountants, venture capitalists, appraisers, liquidators and investors. Sussman was elected to the TMA’s Board of Directors after leading several committees and special task forces as chairman. He joined the TMA in the mid-1990’s and held numerous officer positions, including Vice President of Communications, in addition to Corporate Secretary.
