A New York lawyer jumped 12 storeys to his death today after reeling from the deaths of his parents and separation from his wife.
Leonard Morton was 45. He suffered from bi-polar disorder and landed on scaffolding at the scene at 255 Broadway.
“He was going through a terrible, errible depression,” said close friend Linda March, 51. “He was a very intelligent person and a very good lawyer.”
Cops quickly covered the body with a white sheet, as alarmed workers in nearby buildings looked on.
Morton fell into a deep depression after his mother passed away in November 2011, friends said. The mom, Deanna Morton, of Great Neck, L.I., died in her sleep. She was 69, according to published reports.
“It would be hard for anyone to endure — you reach a breaking point,” said a friend who would only give his name as Al. “He was a wonderful son to both his mother and father.”
Morton worked for his mother’s public relations firm, Morton Communications, for several years, according to his online profile.
Leonard Morton eventually pulled out of his depression but went into a manic phase a few months ago, friends said. He separated from his wife of three years, who remained devoted to him, friends said.
