Gregory B. Jordan, managing partner of Reed Smith since 2001, today was elected by the firm’s partners to remain at the helm of the 125-year-old firm for the next three years. During Jordan’s first term, he and the Reed Smith Senior Management Team charted a course of action that resulted in significant economic returns and strategic growth that transformed Reed Smith into one of the world’s 20 largest firms. Jordan’s election signals three more years of high expectations for Reed Smith, which has approximately 1000 lawyers in the 18 offices in the United States and United Kingdom.
“We are delighted that Greg has agreed to continue in the role of managing partner,” said Daniel Booker, a member of the Executive Committee and the firm’s managing partner from 1991 to 2001. “He and the Senior Management Team have been exceptional leaders, enhancing our internal capabilities and expanding our markets and service opportunities. We have every confidence Reed Smith will continue to prosper under their stewardship.”
In addition to Jordan, Senior Management Team members include Michael Pollack, Director of Strategic Planning, Eugene Tillman, Director of Legal Personnel, and Gary Sokulski, Chief Administrative Officer.
Despite a sagging economy, Reed Smith has achieved stellar financial performance since 2001, with operating results among the 10 most improved for the nation’s 100 largest law firms on all key indicators, including gross revenue and profitability. “I am grateful to have had the support of a great group of partners, including an exceptional Senior Management Team, in restructuring the firm to achieve our most critical business objectives,” Jordan said. “Reed Smith’s outstanding people and our loyal and dynamic client base have long been integral to our success. We are confident that we are poised to achieve our most ambitious goals for the future.”
In addition to overseeing the firm’s restructuring, Jordan has guided Reed Smith’s significant expansion over the past three years, including:
*overseeing the integration of the firm’s first two European offices following the combination with Warner Cranston of London;
*incorporating the 25-lawyer New York City firm of Parker Duryee into Reed Smith’s Manhattan office, followed by a move to a larger New York location and the continuous expansion of that office with lateral hires;
*completing the transfer of the legal department of Federated Investors Inc. to Reed Smith, creating an investment management practice group ranking among the largest such practices in the country; and
*enlarging the firm’s footprint to the West Coast through a combination with Crosby Heafey Roach & May, one of California’s 20-largest law firms – an expansion by which Reed Smith acquired significant offices in both northern and southern California and became one of the few firms with major operations on both coasts and in the UK.
Earlier this year, Jordan, now 44, was named as one of the country’s top 45 lawyers under 45 by The American Lawyer. In addition to serving as Managing Partner, he chairs both the Senior Management Team and the firm’s Executive Committee, and previously served as the firm’s Director of Legal Personnel and Director of Practice Development. Jordan has been listed in The Best Lawyers In America since 1995.
A native of Wheeling, West Virginia, Jordan joined Reed Smith in 1984, immediately after graduating cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. He graduated magna cum laude from Bethany College in 1981, and is on the College’s Board of Trustees.
